OUR philosophy
Triflorum Designs is rooted in a philosophy of care for plants and people. We design lush plantings based on ecological principles that prioritize the health of the ecosystem, striving to heal soil and provide a diverse habitat for wildlife in addition to creating spaces that are beautiful and full of interest all year long.
We strive to use plants that are native to Maine wherever possible, although we appreciate the aesthetic, textural, and functional value of non-native plant species in the garden where appropriate. We want to create outdoor spaces for people to enjoy that enhance our rootedness in our environments, and once plantings are established, they are dense, colorful, and as low maintenance as possible. We believe that planting with density, using low groundcovers as ‘mulch,’ and seeking to reduce the exposed soil in a garden reduces labor and cost over time, while maximizing the biodiversity and aesthetic interest within the space.
Our container and floral work aims to mimic the seasonal landscape, combining a variety of colors and textures to create lush and dynamic designs that brighten the space. We strive to bring movement and lightness to each design, while evoking a feeling of natural abundance throughout the seasons.
Above all, we embrace plants and intentional design to help blur the lines between human spaces and the ecosystems that surround and include us, to create more harmony, beauty, and connection wherever we can.
